Angola works on promotion of human rights - official

Luanda, ANGOLA, June 7 - Angola is working toward promotion and dissemination of human rights aimed at raising awareness of its fundamental principles and compliance, said the State Secretary for Human Rights, Ana Celeste. ,


Ana Celeste was speaking to the press at the end of the national conference on Universal Periodic Review Mechanism of the United Nations.


Many people are unaware of human rights issues. Therefore, it is necessary to promote and prepare these fundamental principles, she said.


"We are not the best in the world in human rights issue, we have our challenges, our weaknesses," acknowledged the Secretary of State, to whom these meetings serve to see what is good and how to increasingly achieve the improvement.


The official said that every citizen has a duty to fight for the guarantee of his/her rights and to fulfill his/her duties.


She considered it fundamental that people report possible cases of violations of these rights.


Angola is members of UN Human Rights Council.


The one-day event gathers members of civil society from the country's 18 provinces, committee of human rights, as well as university students.


The meeting is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights and the Lutheran World Federation.
