Nick Diaz has been arrested after an alleged domestic violence that occurred Thursday evening in Las Vegas. MMAjunkie reports that an individual in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that Diaz is the individual in question. Diaz has been charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery.
According to LVMPD Officer Larry Hadfield, the alleged victim was female. He said that officers responded to a call at a Las Vegas residence at approximately 7:20 PM PT. A source said that twelve units were dispatched, that the alleged victim was transported to a local hospital and that Diaz was combative with officers during the arrest.
The UFC fighter is currently in custody with a bail set at $18,000. He cannot bail until after a court hearing scheduled for tomorrow morning.
UFC officials issued a statement about the incident which read, “UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete Nick Diaz. The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process, and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”
Diaz’s friend and business associate Matt Staudt posted to Instagram defending Diaz and saying that the alleged victim was “deranged and insane,” accusing her of stalking Diaz. He said they ran into the woman in Las Vegas and claimed, “She left their interaction feeling some type of way yesterday and put in a fake report to get even and have him arrested which she’s threatened to do many times before as well.”
