Suspect in fatal shooting of Portland father arrested in Texas; victim was trying to break up kids’ spat

A Portland man accused in a deadly shooting last month in the Hazelwood neighborhood was taken into custody in Texas on Monday, officials said.

U.S. Marshals arrested Che Bell, 35, in Killeen, Texas, the Portland Police Bureau said. Bell was booked on charges of murder in the second degree, unlawful use of a weapon and felon in possession of a firearm, police said in a statement.

Kevin Rhinehart, 33, was shot to death in Portland on March 9 at the Cascade Crossing apartment complex on East Burnside, near the 102nd Avenue MAX station, after a fight between children escalated to include adults, according to witnesses.

Rhinehart was the father of three girls.
