      CONSUMERS. FUNDING CUTS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES ARE IMPACTING LOCAL COLLEGES. NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY’S CRITICAL COUNSELING PROGRAM IS GOING AWAY. THE COLLEGE RECOVERY COMMUNITY WAS LED BY FACULTY AND A TEAM OF STUDENT EMPLOYEES TO SHARE RESOURCES FOR PEERS STRUGGLING WITH ADDICTION AND ADDICTIVE HABITS. NOW, THE PROGRAM’S DIRECTOR SAYS THE MOVE CAME AS A SHOCK AND WILL NEGATIVELY IMPACT STUDENTS. HOWEVER, GENERAL COUNSELING SERVICES ARE STILL BEING OFFERED. THE GOAL IS TO FIND ANOTHER SOURCE OF FUNDING TO BRING BACK THE RECOVERY PROGRAM. NEW AT NOON, A WINSTON-SALEM MAN WILL SPEND 17 TO 21 YEARS IN PRISON FOR KILLING HIS ROOMMATE FOLLOWING AN ARGUMENT. THE FORSYTH COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE SAYS TONY ROGERS PLEADED GUILTY TO SECOND DEGREE MURDER AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A FELON. PROSECUTORS SAY BACK IN FEBRUARY OF 2021, ROGERS SHOT 47 YEAR OLD BLAKE TAYLOR AT SUNRISE TOWERS ON MLK JUNIOR DRIVE. DETECTIVES SAY ROGERS GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT WITH TAYLOR AND SHOT HIM. PROSECUTORS SAY ROGERS CALLED 911 AND ADMITTED TO THE SHOOTING. HE THEN TURNED THE GUN OVER TO POLICE. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AT THE SCENE. TODAY IN LEXINGTON, A NEW EFFORT TO HEAT UP A 44 YEAR OLD COLD CASE. OFFICIALS PLAN TO UNVEIL A BILLBOARD ON HIGHWAY 64, FEATURING A $5,000 NO QUESTIONS ASKED REWARD AND THE DISAPPEARANCE OF DONNA BARNHILL. SHE WAS 13 YEARS OLD WHEN SHE WENT MISSING ON MARCH 18TH OF 1981. THIS HAPPENED YESTERDAY, AS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TERMINATES VISAS FOR MANY FOREIGN STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. SIX STUDENTS AT UNC CHAPEL HILL ALSO HAD THEIR VISAS REVOKED YESTERDAY. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO TWO GRAD STUDENTS AT DUKE ON MONDAY AND LAST WEEK, TWO NC STATE STUDENTS FLED THE COUNTRY WHEN% THEIR VISAS WERE CANCELED. NOW, IN MANY CASES, STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN POLITICAL ACTIVISM, SUCH AS SUPPORTING PALESTINIANS. STUDENTS SAY THEY’RE CONCERNED THIS MOVE WILL CAUSE ISSUES IN THE FUTURE. I THINK THAT IT’S SENDING A HORRIBLE MESSAGE TO PEOPLE THAT WE SHOULD INSTILL FEAR INTO PEOPLE THAT, YOU KNOW, AREN’T LIKE US OR MAYBE WEREN’T BORN HERE. AND I THINK THAT IT’S A REALLY SCARY THING TO DO TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, BECAUSE FIRST WE START WITH PEOPLE THAT HAVE VISAS, AND THEN WE START WITH PERMANENT RESIDENCE.       The execution of multiple search warrants throughout Robeson County led to several arrests.This long-term investigation, which officials said is called “Operation Dirty Vaquero,” is a collaborative effort between several agencies that has led to the apprehension of some of the biggest drug dealers in the Robeson County area.On Wednesday, officials said their “sunrise surprise” led to the arrest of several people responsible for distributing multiple kilos of fentanyl and cocaine, possessing firearms, and conspiring with previously deported and undocumented immigrants to sell and deliver drugs.“As we know, Fentanyl overdoses and deaths have wreaked havoc on our county,” stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “The actions of these drug dealers have resulted in unimaginable pain to many families. While the dealers profit from this poison, the families of those suffering from substance abuse are often left without their loved one.”Robeson County officials said they were assisted by the DEA, ATF agents, and the Eastern District of North Carolina United States Attorney’s Office, and other agencies.Sheriff Wilkins said, “Today’s team effort is one we could not have accomplished alone. The message should be clear.       “As we know, Fentanyl overdoses and deaths have wreaked havoc on our county,” stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “The actions of these drug dealers have resulted in unimaginable pain to many families. While the dealers profit from this poison, the families of those suffering from substance abuse are often left without their loved one.”
