‘Sunrise surprise’ conducted by Robeson County Sheriff’s Office leads to massive drug bust
The execution of multiple search warrants throughout Robeson County led to several arrests.
This long-term investigation, which officials said is called “Operation Dirty Vaquero,” is a collaborative effort between several agencies that has led to the apprehension of some of the biggest drug dealers in the Robeson County area.
On Wednesday, officials said their “sunrise surprise” led to the arrest of several people responsible for distributing multiple kilos of fentanyl and cocaine, possessing firearms, and conspiring with previously deported and undocumented immigrants to sell and deliver drugs.
“As we know, Fentanyl overdoses and deaths have wreaked havoc on our county,” stated Sheriff Burnis Wilkins. “The actions of these drug dealers have resulted in unimaginable pain to many families. While the dealers profit from this poison, the families of those suffering from substance abuse are often left without their loved one.”
Robeson County officials said they were assisted by the DEA, ATF agents, and the Eastern District of North Carolina United States Attorney’s Office, and other agencies.
Sheriff Wilkins said, “Today’s team effort is one we could not have accomplished alone. The message should be clear. The people of Robeson County are tired of drug dealers and the destruction they have caused.”
