Senator Baldwin weighs in on President Trumps tariff plan
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin is weighing in on the U.S. economy including the pause to tariffs on a number of countries.
Baldwin said her initial reaction to the pause on tariffs was uncertainty.
She said it’s difficult for families to plan a budget, farmers to know what to plant and legislators like herself to know what to do when the United States policies are rapidly changing.
She said while she doesn’t like the current plan the president has laid out, she is in favor of tariffs on China.
“We make a lot of things in Wisconsin. We’re a big manufacturing state and China, because of state subsidies or forced labor or all sorts of other policies, cheat and can produce products for less. But that is totally different than these across-the-board tariffs,” said Baldwin.
Baldwin says she is also working on passing legislation called the American Family Act, which would expand the child tax credit and make it accessible to more families.
We will hear more from Baldwin in our 6 p.m. newscast.
