DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) is hosting public meetings this week regarding the proposed acquisition of Minnesota Power’s parent company, ALLETE.

It was announced back in May 2024 that ALLETE Energy is in the process of being acquired by two investors.

The partnership will be led by Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Global Infrastructure Partners.

According to Minnesota Power, the new partners have committed to respecting workforce retention and honoring union contracts.

Minnesota Power leaders said the transaction will not impact rates for customers, as the company will remain a regulated public utility.

Future rates will be monitored under the law.

In addition, the company’s headquarters will remain in Duluth.

The next step in the proposed acquisition includes public hearings, scheduled by the MPUC.

These meetings allow Minnesota Power customers to ask questions and present their views on the acquisition.
