Spokesman Raps UK, Germany’s Political Abuse of Human Rights against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson condemned Germany and Britain’s move to initiate a draft resolution against Iran at the UN Human Rights Council, denouncing their abuse of the human rights mechanisms for exerting political pressures.

In a statement on Friday, Esmaeil Baqaei deplored the abuse of the human rights mechanisms by the UK, Germany and a number of other Western governments for exerting political pressures on the developing countries.

He also condemned the UK and Germany’s move to initiate a resolution against Iran at the UN Human Rights Council, saying the resolution lacks legal credibility due to the ill will of its initiators, the wrongfulness of its claims, the sweeping generalizations and general conclusions on the basis of alleged violations, the contradictions, and the undocumented claims attributed to anonymous individuals.

Baqaei also highlighted the dark record of the UK, Germany, Canada and the other initiators and sponsors of the anti-Iranian resolution during the past two years regarding the catastrophic human rights violations in the West Asia, specifically the Israeli regime’s genocidal crimes in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.

“Neither the UK, which is one of the biggest political, financial and arms sponsors of the Zionist regime and whose foreign secretary considers that the proof of genocide in Gaza requires the massacre of millions of people, nor Germany which is the second supplier of arms used in the Israeli genocidal crimes and whose foreign minister has explicitly allowed the massacre of innocent Palestinian children and women, are in a moral position to teach the others about human rights,” the spokesman underlined.

Highlighting Iran’s principled view about safeguarding human rights and the fundamental freedoms of nation in accordance with the Constitution as well as the international documents and treaties ratified by the Iranian government, he said, “As an establishment based on a popular revolution that deems its existence and might dependent on support from the people, the Islamic Republic of Iran spares no effort to protect and promote human rights and also to detect and address the cases of violation of human rights –including through making the proper laws and regulations and appropriate judicial manners.”

He also underlined Iran’s constant interaction with the human rights mechanisms, including the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in order to play an active role in promoting the human rights norms at the international level.

Baqaei warned that the employment of the UN Human Rights Council as a tool by the Western governments, particularly the UK and Germany, with the purpose of imposing their political views on Iran will harm the position and credibility of the council and disrupt the human rights processes that are based upon cooperation and synergy among the countries.

In order to prove their sincerity in expressing concerns about the human rights situation in Iran, the UK, Germany and the other sponsors of the anti-Iranian resolution need to cease following the US in the imposition of illegal and inhumane sanctions against the Iranian nation, which constitute crimes against humanity, the spokesman stated.
