To The Daily Sun,

In 2001, my husband and I lived in Tel Aviv and spent time with an elderly Holocaust couple. They were active speakers to many groups and part of the Israel Holocaust museum. They both had been survivors of death camps as children, losing their families. They were both graciously unassuming and tolerant.

What they impressed me with was an ability to look ahead and be prepared. She, the elderly female, never went to bed, even in her 80s, without preparing a sandwich to leave on her bed table. She emphatically stated she never again would wake up hungry.

But more than that she believed in looking ahead. See the best possible scenario. Marvel in one's life and accomplishments. Believe in future generations, goals for one's offsprings. Plan for life events, taxes, insurance bills. Pay ahead for retirement. Hide a week's wage for emergencies, even if one has to save $1 or $2 a week.

I feel more secure following that advice.
