According to Georgia's Fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe may adopt a "strict resolution" on Georgia's issue.
Zurabishvili made the statement during a briefing today.
"It should be noted that yesterday's protest gives us great hope and confirms that the government's repressive policies have failed and could not disband this protest. It exists in society, and when given the chance to appear stronger, it will appear. It is permanent, and no one can intimidate its participants or society. Another attack is being carried out on the political spectrum, and political persecution is moving to a new stage. We are also in agreement on this, and this should be one of the directions of our joint positions. We will see what form the decisions of the current government will take, but even with this, they will not intimidate the political spectrum.
From April 7, there will be a session in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where a strict resolution will likely be adopted. The issue of political prisoners will be at the forefront.
Also, all the new laws passed recently, which aim to suffocate all NGOs and civil society with the FARA law, will be discussed. But ways will be found to address this, and we are working to find those ways. Under no circumstances should we consider that because the government is adopting new repressive laws, it means it is strengthening. On the contrary, the protest is strengthening. More and more people are realizing what this government is doing and in which direction it is heading. More people are joining our message and the path I announced yesterday, which reflects the unified political stance of the parties that have entered here. We are moving toward elections, a peaceful path. We will achieve the elections, the release of political prisoners, but we do not choose other paths that may exist in someone's mind. This is our united position. We are here to be strong, to be determined, and together in this new unity, to resist, cope with the regime's repression, and achieve our goal," said Salome Zurabishvili.
