Theater Review: The new Broadway 'Glengarry Glen Ross' with Kieran Culkin is perfectly cast

Here it comes, almost like clockwork: Another “Glengarry Glen Ross” opens on Broadway with a new set of actors trying their luck with David Mamet’s cutthroat look at business, like a “Hunger Games” for real estate. “Succession” breakout Kieran Culkin joins “Better Call Saul” star Bob Odenkirk and comedian Bill Burr in a crackling, non-showy and well-balanced production that opened Monday at the Palace Theatre. The trio will likely get a standing ovation every night, but it’s the casting that really sings. None of the leads are outside their comfort zones, with Culkin really just playing a more spikey, foul-mouthed version of Roman Roy.

Why your favorite reality shows like 'Love is Blind' are using songs you actually know

NEW YORK (AP) — The latest season of “Love Is Blind” featured a ton of popular music in its soundtrack. Songs by Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez played. Could it reflect a trend in dating competition shows utilizing more commercial music than generic offerings from licensing organizations? Producers and music supervisors for “Love Is Blind,” “Love Island USA” and “The Bachelor” say their shows have always used big pop hits. Some are using them more frequently now to connect better with audiences. Others say they always have.

'Coyote vs. Acme' finds a new home after being shelved by Warner Bros.

NEW YORK (AP) — For once, things are working out for Wile E. Coyote. After being shelved by Warner Bros., the Looney Tunes film “Coyote vs. Acme” has found a new home. Ketchup Entertainment announced Monday that it acquired worldwide distribution rights to the film for an undisclosed sum. The deal gives new life to one of the three fully completed films that Warner Bros. elected to take a tax write-off on rather than release. The tactic, which followed a change in leadership at Warner Bros. coming out of the pandemic, was widely disparaged by creatives and fans, alike. Ketchup Entertainment plans a theatrical release at an unspecified future date.

A court is allowing the release of most records in the Gene Hackman death investigation

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico court has cleared the way for the release of investigative records from the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, as long as depictions of the deceased couple are blocked from view. Monday's ruling allows the possible release of redacted police body camera video and other investigative materials, including images of the couple’s dead dog. All photos, video and documents from the investigation had been restricted from release by an earlier, temporary court order. A representative for the Hackman family estate had urged a New Mexico judge to keep the records sealed to protect the family’s constitutional right to privacy.

Jack Black, Jason Momoa enter the Minecraft universe as the video game phenom hits the big screen

LOS ANGELES (AP) — When Jack Black got the call to star in the “Minecraft” movie, the perks were plenty. He got to work alongside Jason Momoa, reunite with director Jared Hess and engulf himself into a beloved gaming universe. But before agreeing, Black turned to the real decision- makers: his sons, who are avid Minecraft players. They didn’t just give their approval, but practically begged him to take the role. Like his sons, Black has noticed the buzz from many others since the release announcement of “A Minecraft Movie,” which hits theaters Friday. The actor was already familiar with the video game, having played it occasionally with his sons while preparing for the game’s live-action adaptation.

Book Review: Claire Anderson-Wheeler pays homage to Fitzgerald with mystery ’The Gatsby Gambit'

Irish writer Claire Anderson-Wheeler does more than just adapt one of the American literary canon’s most famous works in “The Gatsby Gambit.” She inserts F. Scott Fitzgerald’s characters in a mystery story, true to their traits, but with a wholly original plot. “In the end,” writes AP reviewer Rob Merrill, “it’s an homage” more than just fan fiction. Anderson-Wheeler writes in a voice that is fun to read, even as she stays true to the character traits Fitzgerald created a century ago. “The Gatsby Gambit” is on sale Tuesday. Penguin Classics is publishing a 100th anniversary edition in conjunction with Anderson-Wheeler’s new work.

The rap-rock star said Monday that concertgoers of all political stripes understand that the pricing is a “conundrum.” The order is designed to stop “price-gouging by middlemen” and directs Attorney General Pam Bondi and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to ensure that scalpers offering tickets at higher prices than their face value comply with all Internal Revenue Service rules.

Book Review: 'Sour Cherry' shows its debut author's stunning talent for modern fairy tales

“Sour Cherry” is a reimagining of the tale of Bluebeard, a serial wife-killer who punishes the women's curiosity with death. Natalia Theodoridou’s modern take grapples with abuse, generational trauma, dominance and culpability. It begins with Agnes, called upon to be a wet nurse for the local lord in an unspecified time period in an unnamed country, told by an unidentified first-person narrator to another person only identified as “you.” Donna Edwards of The Associated Press says “Sour Cherry” is beautiful and harrowing. Theodoridou's talent for storytelling shines in his debut. “Sour Cherry” is scheduled for release Tuesday from Tin House.
