A dish at the Michelin-starred Whitebrook restaurant

Wales has seriously upped its foodie game, so why not treat your partner to a fancy meal at a Michelin-starred restaurant? Wales currently has 10 Michelin-starred restaurants, including four awarded ‘green’ stars.

With one Michelin green star and four AA rosettes, dining at the Whitebrook is a must for a serious foodie couple. Fresh, local ingredients and foraged findings from the valley and the Brecon Beacons are at the heart of the food at this highly acclaimed restaurant with rooms.

Set in five acres of landscaped surroundings, chef Chris Harrod draws culinary inspiration from his bountiful surroundings.

You can expect hand-foraged garlic, bittercress, wild onion, and hogweed from the valley, which connect diners to the immediate locale and enrich the carefully crafted menu.

The current tasting menu is a culinary journey, showcasing the best of the season with expertly chosen wine pairings of local Welsh and English wines, including several from Monmouthshire-based White Castle Vineyard.

Why not make a weekend of it and book a stay in the Whitebrook, so you don't have to drive home after an incredible feast? They have eight rooms overlooking the Wye Valley & woodland. Rooms are individually designed and inspired by the natural surroundings outside.

4. Climb a mountain together

Located in Ceredigion near Ponterwyd, at 2,468ft, Pumlumon Fawr is the highest point in Central Wales
Why not have a date challenge and hike up a mountain together

Why not have a date challenge and hike up a mountain together? In the wilds of the Cambrian Mountains in mid Wales, Pumlumon Fawr (known as Plynlimon in English) is a remote peak that's perfect for adventurous couples who are used to hiking.

Located in Ceredigion near Ponterwyd, at 2,468ft, Pumlumon Fawr is the highest point in central Wales. However, there are no car parks, road signs, or marked trails.

Here, you can discover the dreamy lakes and streams that are the source of mighty rivers and enjoy uninterrupted views of the mountain ranges of Wales and Ceredigion's remote inland landscapes.

This solitude is both awe-inspiring and slightly eerie. If you’re a couple who finds comfort in crowds, this is not the trek for you. But if you both enjoy unspoilt scenery and almost-perfect tranquillity, Pumlumon Fawr ticks both those boxes.

5. Gaze at the stars in the Elan Valley

For a small country, Wales has embraced an outsized role in preserving the night sky
The Elan Valley Estate has several prime locations for viewing the blood moon and stargazing.

What could be more romantic than looking up at the stars together in a rural part of Wales? The Elan Valley Estate achieved International Dark Sky Park status in 2015 and became the first privately owned but publicly accessible park in the world to do so.

Since its Dark Sky designation, the Elan Valley is now recognised as one of the top stargazing destinations in the world and has been featured in many stargazing guides, talks and books.

But what does that mean for stargazers? In simple terms, it means minimal light pollution and skies so clear that you can see the Milky Way, meteor showers, and even the faint glow of neighbouring galaxies with the naked eye.

Several stargazing sites in the Elan Valley offer the best chances of seeing the cosmos including the Teifi Pools, Claerwen Dam and the Craig Goch car park.

The valley’s remote location and thoughtful conservation efforts make it a standout spot for those seeking a deeper connection with the universe and, hopefully with your beloved.

As you speed through the water, keep your eyes peeled for puffins, razorbills, kittiwakes, and a huge colony of seals frolicking in the waves or sunbathing on the beach.

Dolphins and porpoises are a rare but exciting sight in these waters, so if you’ve got sharp eyes (or a good pair of binoculars!), you might just spot one of these sleek creatures gliding by.

For the more adventurous couple, RR Ribride also offers ‘foil ride’ adventures for adults and teens. And if you’ve never heard of an e-foil, it’s like something out of a sci-fi movie—an almost-silent electric surfboard that lifts above the water on a hydrofoil wing, making you feel like you're levitating. It's an epic way to experience the Menai Strait and the only e-foil school in the UK!
