Police arrest ‘husband’ of a 17-year-old child murdered in Wajir

The suspets reportedly murdered the girl for refusing to marry the 55-year-old man.

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 29 – The National Police Service (NPS) has arrested three main suspects, including the alleged ‘husband,’ in connection with the tragic death of 17-year-old Gaala Adan in Wajir County.

The suspets reportedly murdered the girl for refusing to marry the 55-year-old man.

In a statement on Saturday, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said the police was processing the three suspects for arraignment in court.

“While investigators must be allowed to piece together all the circumstances that led to this tragic death without prejudice, NPS deeply regrets the loss of life and extends its condolences to the victim’s family,” said Nyaga.

Nyaga urged the public to abandon harmful cultural practices and allow children to enjoy their childhood.

The NPS Spokesperson reaffirmed the service’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

Meanwhile, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) condemned the killing, describing it as a horrifying example of gender-based violence and calling for urgent action.

“Forced marriages are illegal. We call on law enforcement to act swiftly and ensure justice for this young girl,” the commission said in a statement.

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), through its President Faith Odhiambo, also condemned the murder, stressing the need for immediate action.
