Trio of gun regulation bills being considered by Nevada Legislature

CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) - Several bills on gun regulations and rights will be heard by lawmakers in the State Legislature Thursday.
The first is Assembly Bill 105, which would prohibit a person from carrying a gun within 100 feet of an election site.
The law would not apply to police officers or private security guards, or if the gun is located inside a car without the intent of being used. It will also not apply to the otherwise lawful possession of a gun in a residence that happens to be within 100 feet of an election site.
Any person who violates this law will be guilty of a gross misdemeanor, but any person found guilty of knowingly violating the law will be guilty of a category D felony.
Under the law, an election site would be defined as any polling place, central counting place, or ballot drop box.

The second bill being considered in Carson City Thursday is AB245, which would bar any person under the age of 21 from being able to buy or possess a semiautomatic shotgun or semiautomatic rifle. Any person found to be in possession of such guns will be guilty of a gross misdemeanor.
Any person who knowingly permits a person under 21 to possess such guns will be guilty of a misdemeanor for the first offense. If that person knows or has reason to believe the person under 21 will use the gun in a violent act, that person would be guilty of a category C felony. Any subsequent offense would result in a category B felony conviction with imprisonment for no less than one year and a maximum fine of $5,000.

The third and final gun bill being heard in Carson City will be Senate Bill 89, a bill that would tighten firearm restrictions for those convicted of hate crimes.
It extends the ban on them owning guns if they were convicted of a hate crime in the last 10 years.
The law would create an exemption for those convicted before the bill would take effect.
