Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fijians to reject racism and embrace unity.

“We do not have time for those kinds of people,” he said.

This comment came after reports of numerous postings of racism on social media.

While recognising the importance of indigenous rights, Mr Rabuka said there was a need for inclusivity.

“We acknowledge the significance of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the ILO Convention 169, which are in place to protect indigenous interests.”

However, he said, indigenous Fijians also have a responsibility toward others.

“We must ensure that those who live with us are properly looked after.

“We must refrain from anything that harms our harmonious coexistence.”

He said Fiji was a multi-ethnic nation.
