James Ferrell is charged with attempted enticement of a child, second-degree attempted kidnapping and possession of a controlled substance, court records show.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office received a report of a man pulling up in a white van next to a child outside his house and asking the child to come with him, according to court documents.

Investigators linked Ferrell to the incident through a photo of the van; investigators later found Ferrell driving a van that matched the photo, according to court documents.

Investigators found rope, blankets, pillows and small, child-like items including a child-size fishing pole, court documents state.

Investigators also found handcuffs, more children's toys, and a bag of methamphetamine during a search of Ferrell's residence, according to court documents.

Ferrell was booked in the Morgan County Jail and is being held without bond. He appeared in court Monday and entered a plea of not guilty, court records show.

Ferrell is a registered sex offender and was sentenced to five years in prison in 1997 for first-degree child molestation.
