A honky tonk heater.
Today, Cody Jinks released a new song called “Put the Whiskey Down,” which was written by Cody along with Kendall Marvel and Channing Wilson.
Featuring some good old fashioned country production, the song is simple in its message, all about drinking your blues away at the local dive bar having fun and listening to some country music. It’s likely going to be included on a forthcoming album that Jinks has hinted at, but hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, as he’s released a couple other singles recently.
The Texas native might have let the news slip in a video posted on his social media pages recently, where he’s posted in a camp chair next to a fire and he shares that new music is on the way:
“Oh hey, didn’t see you there. Jinks here. Sneaky edition.
Just wanted to let you guys know that on this Monday, February 10th… almost all of the music is in the can for what will be our upcoming record, to be released later this year.
We’re basically done…recording this record. So we begin the mixing and mastering process, the artwork, all the things that take months and months to do. We wanted to let you know. It’s going to be badass. I’m just gonna say it, I’m just gonna say it right there. It’s badass. Over and out.”
So yeah, it’s definitely in the works…

Most recently, Jinks put out a Lefty Frizzell tribute record at the end of last year called Cody Jinks Sings Lefty Frizzell, which highlights some of the hidden gems and hits from Frizzell’s catalog. In terms of fully original music, he also put out Change The Game last year, proving again that he’s one of the premiere artists in the independent country music scene.
With another song release this week, it feels like we’re getting close to an album announcement at the very least, and hopefully it will be coming out sooner rather than later, because Jinks has an extensive list of tour dates for 2025, and I know fans would love to get to hear some of the new music.
