A woman whose body was found in a flaming donation bin in Glens Falls, New York, was originally from Vermont, NBC5 has learned.Last week, a woman was found dead in a clothing donation bin that had been set on fire in a parking lot on Hudson Avenue. After the fire was extinguished, police said they found the victim's body with "fire-related injuries."Hearst-owned The Albany Times Union confirmed the identity of the victim as 43-year-old Michelle McFarren. Police told the Times Union that McFarren lived in "the Glens Falls area." According to her obituary, McFarren was born in Bennington, Vermont, and attended Salem Washington Academy in Salem, New York. She is survived by her mother and three children as well as two grandchildren and her former husband. Several members of the family have ties to the Vermont and New York area. Glens Falls Mayor Bill Collins posted a note to the community on his Facebook page, saying McFarren "lost her life in a fire in a clothing donation bin in which she may have sought refuge from a cold rainy night." He went on to say that the incident was a stark reminder of that members of the unhoused community face "troubling circumstances."An autopsy determined that McFarren's death was fire-related, according to the Times Union.A funeral will be held privately, the obituary said.Police said this was likely an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.Investigators said they want anyone who was in the area between March 5 at 9:30 p.m. and March 6 at 2:30 a.m. to contact the Glens Falls Police Department at 518-761-3840.Editor's note: The Albany Times Union is owned by NBC5 parent company Hearst.
