The Oklahoma City Human Rights Commission is hosting an informational session designed to educate apartment tenants on their rights as renters.

The HRC says renters, landlords and the community are all invited to attend the event on March 26 and learn from experts about key housing issues.

The free training will be presented by Adam Hines, an attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Oklahoma,

According to the HRC, the session will address common questions and concerns tenants face, including eviction procedures, service animal policies, rent increases and the legal responsibilities of landlords.

“The HRC is excited to host the ACLU of Oklahoma, who will provide a Know Your Rights Training for Tenants,” Ward 2 HRC Commissioner Cindy Nguyen said. “In a state with one of the highest eviction rates in the nation, we hope this educational forum will empower tenants to exercise their rights to advocate for fair and safe living conditions.”

The session is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in the third floor council chamber at City Hall, located at 200 N. Walker Ave. The event is open to all ages.
