Is your head spinning from all the news in recent months? Actions, counter actions, court cases, appeals, funding losses, funding restored? What is going on in education, in student loans, in public policy, in reproductive health?
National Women’s History Month provides a perfect opportunity to take stock of our current status in this chaotic time. What have we lost in the recent past? What gains have been made? Most important, where do we go from here?
Come join the local branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) on Saturday, March 15 at 9:30 a.m., Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main to hear from women engaged actively in women’s education, public policy, and reproductive health.
Featured guest speaker Megan Seely, Professor and Chair for the Departments of Sociology, of Women and Gender, and of LGBT Studies at Sierra College in Rocklin, will address current challenges in education, sharing facts and anecdotes from campus reality today. Professor Seely, currently teaching, is a rich resource on current impacts to women’s rights and opportunities in education.
Following her presentation, Professor Seely will be joined by fellow panelists AAUW Members Melanie Heckel, Public Policy Chair for AAUW Nevada County; and Elaine Sierra, Director of Public Policy for Citizens for Choice.
The three will briefly summarize gains in women’s rights over time, but, more importantly, cover the setbacks and the risks women face with the current administration. Topics include education; Title IX; reproductive rights; and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), along with suggestions for the way forward.
This meeting is free and open to the public, held Saturday March 15, at Peace Lutheran Church, 828 West Main St., Grass Valley, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. Thank you to local Attorney Kim White for sponsoring this program.
