At an 8th District Court (NV) hearing in July 2022, Nicholas Ryan Floyd was ordered to serve 20-55 years in prison, with earliest parole possibility in 2042. This outcome was the result of the bravery of the young survivor of Floyd's crimes, and a determined investigation by Special Agents of the NPS Investigative Services Branch. Court documents show that the investigation began in May 2018 after a 14-year-old reported being sexually assaulted by Floyd, then age 36, while camping at Sandy Cove in Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

At a prior court hearing, Floyd pleaded no contest (nolo contendre) to attempted sexual assault, child abuse resulting in bodily harm, and second-degree kidnapping. Floyd did not admit to any wrongdoing nor take responsibility for his crimes and their impacts on the survivor. The judge considered the seriousness of the charges in determining the sentence. The case was prosecuted by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.
