Sri Lanka: Tamil’s Anti – Government Protest Shuts down Tamil Areas
Despite heavily armed Military presence with armored vehicles, Tamils supported the call by victim families.
JAFFNA, SRI LANKA, April 27, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ --A protest by Tamils against Sri Lankan Government, shut down Tamil areas in the North and East of the country and paralyzed normal life.
Despite heavily armed Military presence with armored vehicles, Tamils supported the call by victim families.
Students boycotted their schools, shops were closed, public transportation came to a standstill and the streets were deserted.
Main highlights of the protests were:
1) Punish those responsible for the mass killing of Tamils and rape of Tamil women by Sri Lankan Security forces;
2) Find the whereabouts of thousands of Tamils who surrendered to the Security forces eight years ago;
3) Heavy military presence in Tamil areas;
4) Sexual abuses against Tamil women by the Security forces and
5) Military occupying Tamil owned lands.
