WWE has suspended 205 Live star Rich Swann after he was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and attacking his wife.

The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion was arrested in Gainesville, Florida on Saturday night after arguing with fellow pro-wrestler Vannarah Riggs, 28, according to Gainesville Police.

Alachua County Sheriff in Florida said the 26-year-old faces allegations of kidnap/false imprisonment of an adult and battery.

A spokesman for WWE said: "WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest.”

According to the police report, an incident began while the couple were allegedly arguing in a car, after Swann criticised Riggs' wrestling performance at the 8 Seconds nightclub in downtown Gainesville earlier that evening.

Police said Ms Riggs was 'scared that their argument was going to escalate into physical violence' and got out of the car, only to have Swann stop and exit the car to chase after her, while yelling for her to get back inside the vehicle.

A witness said that when Ms Riggs refused to return to the car the first time, Swann put her in a headlock and dragged her back to the car. Once inside, the witness said, Ms Riggs beat on the window and screamed for help.

Another witness told police that Swann was driving erratically and that Ms Riggs jumped out of the slowly-moving car and ran away a second time. Swann was then allegedly seen getting out of the car, while it was still moving, to follow her.

When questioned by police, Swann denied having touched Ms Riggs - a wrestler who goes by the name of Su Yung - and said she had got back into the car herself, according to the report.

Swann also said the reason he had chased after Ms Riggs was that he was trying to get home and needed to use the GPS function on her phone.

Swann and Ms Riggs married nine months ago and had been in a relationship for five years before that, according to police. He is due to appear in court on Monday.

The 5ft 8in star, from Baltimore, Maryland, last wrestled on 205 Live last Tuesday, when he defeated Tony Nese.

Swann was signed by WWE in 2015 after working for Dragon Gate in Japan plus American independent promotions EVOLVE and CZW.

He was part of the Cruiserweight Classic tournament in 2016 and revealed how wrestling saved his life after the deaths of his parents.

The popular high flyer defeated The Brian Kendrick on the first episode of 205 Live on November 29, 2016 to win the cruiserweight title.

Swann lost the Cruiserweight Championship to British wrestler Neville, from Newcastle, at the Royal Rumble in January this year.

Since losing the title he has teamed with Cedric Alexander in a feud against another Brit, Manchester's Jack Gallagher, and Kendrick.

In May he partnered Sasha Banks in a winning mixed tag team effort on Raw versus Alicia Fox and Scotland's Noam Dar.
