Righetti, SJ fall in volleyball playoffs
The underdog St. Joseph and Righetti volleyball teams were both swept 3-0 in CIF Central Section Boys Volleyball Playoffs semifinals Tuesday night.
No. 2 Clovis beat No. 6 St. Joseph 25-16, 25-20, 25-18 in Division 1 behind 13 kills by Justin Moua and 12 more by Trey Alexander. No. 4 Paso Robles beat No. 9 Righetti in Division 3. Set scores were unavailable.
The highest seed is the host team for all Central Section playoff events.
Clovis moved to 30-4. St. Joseph is 28-8. Paso Robles improved to 12-16. Righetti, which won on the road in two prior playoff matches, is 16-12.
St. Joseph is eligible for the regional playoffs. Only teams that compete in Division 1 or Division 2 are eligible.
No. 2 Arroyo Grande will play at No. 1 San Luis Obispo Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. for the Central Section Division 2 championship. San Luis Obispo is the reigning Division 2 champion.

St. Joseph swept the 2024 season series from both teams en route to its third straight unbeaten Mountain League campaign.

VCA goes out in second round
San Bernardino Arroyo Valley starter Ian Escobar and reliever Juan Navarette combined on a six-hitter, the Valley Christian Academy defense slipped and the Hawks beat the Lions 6-2 at Arroyo Valley in the second round of the Southern Section Division 7 Playoffs.
Escobar pitched the first four innings. Navarette pitched the last three.
The Lions made five errors. Half of the Hawks' six runs were unearned. Arroyo Valley moved to 13-9-1. VCA finished 13-6.
James Fakoury and Christian Brewer had an RBI apiece for the Lions. Mikey Rosas had a hit and two RBIs for the Hawks.
Fakoury, the starting Lions pitcher, gave up five runs on seven hits in six innings pitched.     Â
